The remarkable event of the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the events that immediately followed, have offered Germany a historic opportunity to unite the two German States, the West and the East, which had been divided since 1945. These opportunities have significantly changed the agenda for both States and have created the united Germany that we all know today, which will celebrate its 30 year anniversary on 2020. These events have also contributed to the development of the European Union and its institutions that we are proud of today.
In the week before the 30th Anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Academy for Cultural Diplomacy will reflect on these historic events with conferences that will take place in Nordrhein-Westfalen and in Lower Saxony, who at that time hosted the capital of West Germany, Bonn, and shared a border with East Germany.
